The tortoise and the hare
Growth in advanced economies has been a tortoise. The US and the UK got to their pinnacle of affluence by chipping away at a 1.5% real per capita GDP growth for 200 years. Will this tortoise continue to chug along in coming years?
Developing countries have growth episodes which are periods where an elite bargain and an intellectual capacity comes together. The possibilities for a next Indian growth episode is also shaped by global conditions. These phenomena play out over longer time scales as compared with the planning process in business and finance, but deserve greater attention.

Aromar Revi, Vijay Kelkar and I built a course, The Art and Science of Economic Policy. This was based on the book In service of the republic: The art and science of economic policy. This is a part of the `Digital blended learning’ initiative at IIHS. The course now has 8104 `learners’, 4810 `active learners’ and 2212 completers.
