The roots of global success

It is remarkable, how individuals who grew up in India are in leadership roles at important organisations in the West such as Google, Microsoft and the World Bank. In my column in the Business Standard on the 6th, I think about the causes, the consequences, and the future. And, we have a conversation by Alex Mathew and me on BloombergQuint.

ISOTR → Coursera

Aromar Revi, Vijay Kelkar and I built a course, The Art and Science of Economic Policy. This was based on the book In service of the republic: The art and science of economic policy. This is a part of the remarkable `Digital blended learning’ initiative at IIHS.

The Coursera course has crossed 2100 “total learners” and 1000 “active learners”. These two numbers are now growing at rates of about 60/week and 30/week.

Julia meetings in Bombay

On 22 March, we have Sharan Yalburgi teaching Probabilistic programming in Julia [meetup.com]. If you are interested in probability, you will be surprised at these advances on the computation. As an example, this field has created the remarkable tool, Turing.jl, which is the Bayesian foundation for our CRRao.jl.

And on the same day, we have the second Bombay Julia Meetup [meetup.com].

Global macroeconomics at the Asian Economic Dialogue 2023

Pune International Centre runs the annual Asian Economic Dialogue. I was in a panel discussion on global macroeconomics, along with Marcos Caramuru, Josh Felman, Ayhan Kose and Ila Patnaik.
