This is an interesting moment in monetary policy strategy, for the RBI here in India, and for the US Fed. I offer a sense of the forces at work in my Monday column in the Business Standard.
Who is litigating cheque bounce cases
In 1988, the Negotiable Instruments Act was amended to punish cheque bouncing with jail time. As a consequence, a great deal of litigation showed up at the courts. Thinkers on the legal system have long sought to find ways to reduce and better process this case flow. One building block of knowledge for this reasoning is basic facts on who the litigants are. In an article on The Leap Blog on 5 June, Siddarth Raman emerges with facts for two extremes, of an urban setting and a rural setting.
