Military spending needs to go up; Workshop on learning satellite imagery
Implications of the Ukraine war for India
Pune International Centre, Takshashila Institution and XKDR Forum did a conference on the Ukraine war in Pune on 1 August. After spending this day thinking and talking about this, Gautam Bambawale and I have a column Downstream of the Ukraine war in the Business Standard today.
Unaccustomed as we are to proposing more public spending, we argue that India needs to respond to this development by increasing military spending.
Capacity building on data science with satellite imagery
A great frontier in observing the world is through satellite imagery. The imagery released into the public domain by organisations like NASA and ESA is remarkable, and once the knowledge is built, there are also ample private satellites offering better data.
In order to help build knowledge in the Indian community, Chennai Mathematical Institute and XKDR Forum will run a workshop Data science with satellite imagery on 19 and 20 August at the CMI campus in Chennai. This builds on our work on methods for night lights radiance and on statistics for Julia.
