Reorienting Indian foreign policy
My column in the Business Standard on 28 October was titled India has skin in the global game. Traditional thinking in Indian foreign policy was forged in a world where global security, growth and globalisation were made by other countries and could be taken for granted. The high growth of the post-1991 period was made possible by capital, technology, knowledge and markets in the advanced economies and a healthy global environment.
The world is coming into more difficult terrain with much more conflict, with some countries relapsing into total war. In this world, Indian foreign policy will help Indian interests by acting as a status quo power and participating in global coalitions that favour peace, stability and economic success.
A Chinese macroeconomic recovery?
The Chinese government has announced a big stimulus? Will it work? In my column in the Business Standard on 14 October, I suggest this is unlikely.
